Pharrell Williams Remixes Hatsune Miku for Takashi Murakami
I’ve been a little late in the J-Pop world, I need to catch up! While I wasn’t looking, Pharrell Williams remixed the Hatsune Miku song Last Night, Good Night (and added an Re: Dialed). The song is the theme to Takashi Murakami’s feature film debut Jellyfish Eyes. The music video takes place in space, has adorable dancing robots in perfect synchronization, cartoon versions of Pharrell and Murakami, and Miku in killer fashion. Enough said.
If you don’t know Murakami, he’s a very famous contemporary artist. Even if you know nothing about the art world, you likely know this very famous flower pattern at least (he’s done collaborations with a lot of designers as well). Meanwhile, Hatsune Miku is very famous for entirely different reasons. She’s a vocaloid: she’s a personality, a cartoon, and sometimes even a hologram, who is voiced by a singing synthesizer application. Here she is playing a concert to a crowd of adoring fans:
